In the preceding
post we mentioned that Guru Harideva met an Ascetic at Aswaklanta temple and accepted
him as his Guru. After this it came to light that the said Ascetic was neither
seen by anybody there prior to initiation of Guru Harideva nor he was traceable
in the temple afterwards. Under the circumstances people still believe that
Lord Janardana appeared before Guru Harideva in the form the Ascetic and
initiated him. In the scriptures we see that
people like Sage Valmiki, Arjuna, Sage Vyasdeva with austerities and penance of
higher order had to search for a Guru to face some special situation that arose in their lives. Actually those individuals were chosen by the God Almighty
as medium for spreading of his knowledge and teachings for the benefit of the
common people. God created some special situation for those persons to present
them as models for practical training and guidance of common people. Under special
situations created by God those people sincerely sought the help from a Guru and
Guru appeared before them as per arrangement made by the God. For example , when sage Valmiki
was in mental agony and felt the need of a Guru, sage Narada came to him as
Guru. He advised Valmiki to compose Ramayana. Valmiki did so, and thus spread the ideals of Lord Rama to all people. By that, he established Lord Rama as
Ishta Devata in the hearts of people and served
the purpose of God Almighty. In the battle-field of Kurukshetra, when unrest was there in the mind of Arjuna, Lord Krishna appeared as Guru. Then using Arjuna
as medium, Lord Krishna imparted the knowledge of Bhagavadgita for the benefit
of the whole mankind. Similar situation
arose in the life of Sage Vyasdeva and this time Narada appeared before him as Guru.
He inspired Vyasdeva to compose Bhagavata to simplify the knowledge of Vedas in an interesting way. Vyasdeva
did so. Thus Vedas came to the
understanding capacity of common people and Lord Krishna was established as Ishta Devata
in their hearts. In a similar way situation arose in the life of Guru Harideva
and he sincerely prayed for a Guru. Lord Janardana in the form of an Ascetic
appeared before him as Guru. Through
initiation, Lord Janardana prepared him to be the medium of God Almighty for
spreading of the knowledge of
Bhagavata and establishment of Lord Krishna as Ishta devata in the hearts of
common people of his time. From that time onward, Guru Harideva started dedicating
his life for that purpose . We will discuss these things in proper places. (to
be continued)
