In the Vedic scriptures it is told that after
recitation of a hymn or mantra for a specific number of times - usually
in the hundreds of thousands, the reciter attain blessedness or siddhi . For
different mantras this count of recitation differs . It is also told that if the
recitation or Japa of Krishna Kavacha Mantra is performed for three lakh times
with prescribed spiritual discipline, then one attain siddhi or fruition of
this mantra. Till siddhi is attained, one’s mental consent becomes necessary
for chanting of a mantra. But after attainment of Mantra siddhi in some mantra,
the concerned mantra always appear in one’s mind and is chanted automatically without his own willful mental involvement.
Attainment of divine blessedness and yogic powers etc are the
outcomes of Mantra Siddhi. The scriptures tell that different powers can
manifest in a person after attainment of mantra siddhi of a particular mantra .
Because of coming of the powers of the mantra
to one’s behest after attainment
of mantra siddhi, it is possible to draw different psychic abilities, depending
on the power of the mantra and temperament of the person involved. In the
preceding post it is told that Guru Harideva performed japa, that is, silent
recitation and meditation of Krishna Kavacha Mantra at Biswanatha temple of
Kashi daily at midnight . He performed this pursuit with full devotion, purity
of body and mind and also with arduous spiritual discipline. During his four
years of stay at Kashi , Guru Harideva completed Japa or recitation of Krishna Kavacha Mantra for three lakh times
and attained mantra siddhi . It is said that as a mark of this attainment he
was provided with a physical Krishna Kavacha in the form of a golden pendant as blessing from Lord Siva. On the 14th
lunar day of the dark fortnight, just before his leaving of Kashi, when Guru
Harideva was meditating on Krishna Kavacha mantra at Biswanath temple, one
ascetic came to him . The ascetic conveyed him the blessings of Lord Siva ,the presiding deity of
Biswanatha temple and handed over the Gold pendant charged with the power of
Krishna Kavacha mantra to Guru harideva. It is stated that Guru Harideva always used
to hold this kavacha keeping it attached to his garland and the same was
vanished from his garland just before his death .(to be continued)
